Growing the UX and product design community at Waterloo.
OVERVIEW
UW/UX is a student organization at the University of Waterloo dedicated to fostering a friendly and inclusive design culture at Waterloo through 3 pillars: Community, Discovery and Empowerment. The club welcomes designers of all backgrounds—UX, product, graphic, and beyond, to create a space that celebrates learning and creativity.
The first designathon I attended was hosted by UW/UX, and since then, the club and its community have been a key part of my university journey.
I joined the Design team in September 2025 and have been actively supporting the community since. Beyond crafting promotional content for the club, I’ve played a key role in nurturing and expanding the design culture at Waterloo, and I have first handedly seen how thoughtful design provides a sense of belonging within this growing community.
As the current Design Lead, words can’t explain how grateful I am to have the opportunity to collaborate with exceptional and like-minded individuals :)

EVENT PROMOTION
From design sprints to work on your craft to guest speaker events where you can get valuable advice from industry professionals, UW/UX aims to assist designers at all levels through the events that we host. Personally, I love how skill is always out of the equation, and regardless of what kind of designer you are, there’s always something valuable to take from it.

REFLECTION
Being passionate about initiatives that you’re interested in elevate your experience.
To be honest, I was a little nervous to join the club and be apart of a team of skilled designers, and there were times where I thought I wouldn’t be able to hold my own given my skillset. However, my passion and eagerness to learn quickly outgrew these jitters, and I’m so glad I was able to blossom on a team where I’ve been able to learn so much.
Beyond the excellent leadership team behind all of the great events that are hosted, I’m so grateful to have worked with some awesome designers within the community such as Tonia, Fehin, Sydney, Aethar, Gurman, and Ibrahim.
